Proactiv is among the most popular of acne treatments found on the current market. It is a 3 step program that was first introduced through infomercials as a dermatologist created product that exceeded all others and was apparently supposed to be different. Since then, they have expanded from their 3 piece kit to include various free gifts.
Pros
They do have benzoyl peroxide, which is a proven ingredient. In addition, their newer selection also includes a green tea moisturizer which could lead to greater results for you in general terms, because green tea is in part a powerful antioxidant that could also brighten the general appearance of the skin. These ingredients in combination with each other could both fight acne.
Cons
Benzoyl peroxide is used in just about every product in general, and it can without question be found at a cheaper price, whether prescription with insurance or on the over the counter market. It’s not that powerful, but it can definitely cause side effects, and frankly with no other active ingredients in their basic kit and only green tea to even attempt to back it up, it’s not a good sign.
Summary
Proactiv has been among the most popular products because quite frankly it advertises through infomercials using the credibility of not one, but two dermatologists who have since become quite famous. However, it doesn’t use anything new, original, or frankly different from the prescription world they claim to abhor. We would not recommend this product, in part due to the lack of results and in part due to all the side effects.
